Glover Nets 17 at McPherson College

McPHERSON, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 79-59 decision at McPherson College Monday evening.

The Panthers are now 7-13 on the season, including 5-9 in KCAC play.

Head coach Tree Burks' team was led by Dwight Glover's team-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds. Andrew Bennett notched nine points while DJ Leaks added seven points in the loss. Rhino Hernandez distributed a team-best four assists.

Down 10-5 with just over 15:00 minutes to play, Bennett connected on a pair of free throws. Glover tied the game at 10-10 after sinking two charity tosses at the 14:31 mark. A 15-6 run by the Bulldogs made it 25-16 before Trevon Dennis found Bennett for a lay-up at the 7:4 mark.

Trailing 32-24 after a jumper by Cam Clardy with 4:14 to play, the home team embarked on a 14-2 spurt to end the half, taking a 46-26 lead into intermission.

The Panthers cut the deficit to 16 just 1:50 into the second half behind a pair of points from Rhino Hernandez and two free throws from Bennett. However, the Bulldogs managed to push the margin above 20.

Down 62-40, Glover hit a lay-up. Henderson was fouled and calmly hit a free throw. He hit two more with 9:50 to play to make it 62-45. Moments later, Glover hit a free throw and then a lay-up to pull the visitors within 19 at 67-48 but the home squad converted a three-point play at the 6:23 mark.

Glover drained a three-point shot with 6:12 to go to make it 70-51 but the home squad rattled off five straight points before Jordan Marble could find Devin Carroll with 3:00 to go. Fifty-five seconds later, Hernandez connected with Marble for a shot from downtown.  

For the game, York hit 19-of-57 from the floor (33.3 percent), including five-of-19 (26.3 percent) from downtown. The squad got to the line 22 times and hit 16 (72.7 percent). The defense limited the Bulldogs to 21.4 percent shooting from distance.

The Panthers accounted for 36 points off the bench. The team turned six turnovers into six points off the mistakes. York registered nine second-chance points in the contest.
