Panthers Drop Hard-Fought Contest to Tabor College

YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 74-70 contest to Tabor College Wednesday evening.

The Panthers are now 7-14 overall, including 5-10 in league play.

Head coach Tree Burks' team was led by Andrew Bennett's team-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds. He canned seven-of-nine from the floor. Dwight Glover tallied 13 points and eight rebounds while Devin Carroll contributed 11 points. Trevon Dennis and Jordan Marble added nine points apiece. Dennis snagged six boards in the loss.

Glover's jumper with 13:29 to play gave the home team an 18-17 edge. Moments later, Devondre Mayfield's two free throws pushed the score to 20-17.  Marble's three-ball extended the advantage to five at the 11:06 mark.

Leading by one, 26-25, Glover netted five straight points before Marble connected from downtown off a pass from Rhino Hernandez. Glover's charity toss with 6:48 to play pushed the margin to 10, 35-25. The Panthers upped the lead to 14 when Cam Clardy found Dennis for a three-point bucket at the 2:59 mark to make it 43-29. However, the Blue Jays ended the half on an 8-0 spurt.

The visitors took a one-point lead, 48-47, with 14:11 to play. The back-and-forth affair saw the Blue Jays take a double-digit lead at 70-60 with 3:25 to go. However, Devin Carroll answered the bell with a three-point shot with 3:12 to play.

Down by eight, Glover hit two free throws with 34 seconds remaining. The squad had an opportunity to cut it to four with 30 seconds to go but missed an inside shot. Dennis made a lay-up with five seconds to go, but that was as close as the team could get.

For the game, York drained 26-of-60 from the floor (43.3 percent), including a stellar 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from downtown. The team made eight-of-11 (72.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
