York Falls to Tabor College 62-49

YORK, Neb. – The York University women's basketball team lost a hard-fought 62-49 contest to Tabor Wednesday evening.

The Panthers are now 5-14 overall, including 4-11 in KCAC play.

Head coach Corinna Minjarez's team was led by Ashley Rubio's 15-point effort. She also grabbed seven rebounds in the contest. Imani Honey tallied 10 points and five boards to go along with three assists. Destiny Shepherd accounted for eight points and seven boards. Britney Schroer tallied four points and nine rebounds in the contest.

Down 10-5 in the early going, Honey made a pair of free throws at the 3:55 mark. Ashley Rubio found Xuriyah Harry for a jumper, pulling within one at 10-9 at the 3:14 mark. Alliyana Page's lay-up gave the home team an 11-10 lead before Tabor rattled off three points for a 13-11 edge after the first quarter.

Trailing by four, 19-15, Schroer found Rubio for a jumper to pull within two with 6:03 to play before halftime. Less than a minute later, Rubio converted a lay-up to knot the score. The visitors took a 23-19 lead going into halftime.

York trailed 30-23 before Jess McGrath canned a shot from downtown off a pass from Honey. Down by six, Harry made a lay-up at the 5:01 mark. Rubio converted an inside shot before Honey canned two free throws, knotting the game at 32-32. The visitors netted the next five points before Rubio's lay-up pulled the home team within three going into the final stanza.

Honey's two free throws at the 7:02 mark of the fourth quarter pulled the home team within six but the visitors managed to increase the lead to double figures. York made it an eight-point contest after a three-point play with 5:38 to go. The home squad was unable to cut into the margin the rest of the way.

For the game, York hit 18-of-42 from the floor, including four-of-nine from downtown. The squad buried nine-of-14 from the charity stripe. The Panthers held a 37-29 edge on the glass. The squad tallied 24 points in the paint in the contest.
