SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The York University women's basketball team lost a 98-65 decision at Evangel Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 5-15 overall, including 4-12 in league play.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Arcadya Conway's team-best 11 points.
Audrey Hernandez added nine points while
Destiny Shepherd chipped in eight markers.
Down 8-0 in the first quarter, Shepherd took a pass from
Imani Honey and buried a shot from downtown at the 5:14 mark.
Alliyana Page's jumper less than a minute later pulled the Panthers within four at 9-5. Evangel embarked on a 16-5 spurt to end the quarter.
The teams played nearly even in the second quarter with the home squad outscoring the Panthers by just two points, 23-21. During the frame, Conway got the scoring going with a lay-up and a pair of free throws. Down 39-14, Conway netted a three-point bucket and converted a lay-up at the 4:41 mark. Trailing 47-24,
Clara Romero and
Audrey Hernandez found the bottom of the net to pull within 18.
Ashley Rubio's lay-up with 43 seconds to play made it 49-31 at the break.
Down 80-39, Hernandez connected on a jumper before finding
Olivia Shannon for a three-ball at the 1:33 mark but Evangel led 83-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
York outscored Evangel 19-15 over the final 10 minutes of work.
Alliyana Page hit a lay-up in the early going before Hernandez buried a three-point shot. At the 6:07 mark,
Jess McGrath canned a shot from distance. With 2:40 to play, Shannon took a pass from
Monique Contreras for a three-point basket.
Britney Schroer added two late field goals.
For the game, York hit 21-of-61 from the floor, including nine-of-23 from downtown. The team was solid at the charity stripe, hitting 14-of-17 (82.4 percent). The squad grabbed 38 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass. The Panthers dished out 12 assists and had 42 points off the bench.
