York Picks Up Road Win At Friends

WITCHITA, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team recorded a 90-84 victory over Friends University Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 6-8, including 4-4 in KCAC play.

Head coach Tree Burks' team was led by Jaden Henderson's 25-point performance. He added six rebounds and a pair of steals in the win. Trevon Dennis added 15 points and seven rebounds. Cam Clardy tallied 13 points – nine of which came via the free throw line while Andrew Bennett chipped in 11 markers.

In the early going, York pulled within one when Devondre Mayfield hit a free throw at the 11:48 mark. Just 37 seconds later, he nailed a three-point bucket for a 20-18 advantage. Trailing 27-25, Mayfield took a pass from DJ Leaks and hit another shot from distance. Andrew Bennett's jumper pushed the margin to 30-27 with 5:33 to play.

Friends University led 33-30 but Cam Clardy hit a free throw. Trevon Dennis hit a jumper to knot the score at 33-33. Dwight Glover and Dennis each hit shots for a four-point margin with 2:38 to go. York held a 40-38 lead and increased it to four just before the break on Glover's basket.  

Five straight points within an 88-second span in the second half gave the Panthers a 52-42 lead. Devin Carroll's three-ball pushed the margin to double figures.

At one point, Friends trimmed the deficit to six but York would not let the home team get any closer. Leading 68-60, Henderson's three-point shot extended the score to double figures. Moments later, Henderson's shot from distance made it 80-65 with 3:00 to play.

For the game, York hit 30-of-53 from the floor (56.6 percent), including 12-of-22 (54.5 percent) from the three-point line. The squad buried 18-of-23 (78.3 percent) from the charity stripe. The Panthers also held a 33-28 edge on the glass.

The Panthers return to action Wednesday, Jan. 10, when they host Kansas Wesleyan at 8 p.m.
