WICHITA, Kan.– The York University men's soccer team found the back of the net twice in the waning minutes, helping the Panthers register a 3-3 tie at Friends University Saturday.
The Panthers are now 5-5-4 overall and 4-3-2 in KCAC action. The Falcons are 4-6-4 on the year and 4-3-2 in league play.
Trailing 1-0 in the early going,
Diego Yanes found the back of the net at the 22:44 mark. A foul in the box less than two minutes later resulted in Friends taking the lead at 2-1 after the conversion.
The score remained at 2-1 until the 47
th minute when the Falcons found the back of the net for the third time despite a pair of outstanding chances in the first period by the Panthers. At the 26:58 mark,
Kaden Ogle's attempt was saved. Six seconds later,
Keven Marques' shot was thwarted as well.
Yanes rocketed an attempt that was saved in the 74
th minute and
Mamadou Doukanse's attempt in the 80
th minute narrowly missed wide of the frame.
York continued to push forward and it paid off when Yanes connected with Doukanse at the 86:09 mark, making it 3-2. The Panthers continued the aggressive approach and it paid off in the 88
th minute when Yanes blasted an attempt past the keeper to knot it at 3-3.
For the match, York tallied seven shots, including six on goal. The squad earned a pair of corner kicks in the draw.
In goal,
Jamie Watt saved five shots in 72 minutes of action.
Alexandre Florens played 18 minutes and stopped one shot.
Yanes scored twice in three attempts and had an assist to lead the visitors.
