WICHITA, Kan. – The York University women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 match at Friends University Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 6-5-3 overall and 3-3-3 in league play. The Falcons are 10-4 overall and 7-2 in KCAC action.
Friends broke through with a late goal, scoring at the 69:38 mark for what turned out to be the lone goal of the match.
York recorded seven shots in the contest, with two coming on goal.
Adriana Castellanos Rodrigo led the way with three shots, including one on target.
Sofia Villa Monterd accounted for two shots, with one coming on frame.
Gracie Reynolds and
Cristina Prats each posted shots in the contest.
In goal,
Harumi Cornejo posted a save while playing all 90 minutes.
York dominated the match during the first portion. Castellanos Rodrigo's first shot was blocked at the 9:08 mark. Villa Monterd and Reynolds each missed attempts in the first period of play.
After a save by Cornejo at the 57:03 mark, the Panthers were even more aggressive. The visitors rattled off a shot by Castellanos Rodrigo at the 58:37 mark, but it was saved. Villa Monterd had the same result two minutes later. Prats' attempt missed wide in the 62
nd minute as did Castellanos Rodrigo's in the 79
th minute of action.
