YORK, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team cruised to an 8-0 victory over McPherson College Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 7-5-3 overall, including a 4-3-3 ledger in KCAC action.
York jumped on the board early and never looked back. At the 9:06 mark,
Lorna Campos found
Adriana Castellanos Rodrigo for a score. Just over two minutes later, the Panthers were fouled in the box and
Gracie Reynolds promptly found the back of the net on the penalty kick.
The Panthers pushed the margin to 3-0 when
Rieke Wolff tallied a score at the 17:03 mark. Campos and
Sofia Villa Monterd were both credited with assists on the play. The high-octane offense struck again in the 20
th minute when
Laia Gallego Balado found Reynolds for the score. Gallego Balado found the back of the net at the 22:16 mark for a 5-0 lead the squad would take into intermission.
Just over 10 minutes into the second stanza, Castellanos Rodrigo took a pass from Wolff and netted the sixth goal of the match. At the 57:16 mark, Reynolds scored her third goal of the match for the hat trick. Wolff and Villa Monterd were each credited with an assist on the play. In the 62
nd minute,
Zippora Nigg pushed the margin to 8-0.
For the match, York's defense gave up just two shots – and neither were on frame.
Reynolds scored three goals on four shots while Castellanos Rodrigo tallied two goals on three shots. Gallego Balado, Nigg and Wolff also found the back of the net. Wolff, Villa Monterd and Campos tallied two assists each while Gallego Balado totaled one assist.
In goal,
Harumi Cornejo played 45 minutes and
Sofia Falcao played the final 45 minutes combining for the shutout.
