YORK, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team registered a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Saturday afternoon in KCAC action.
The Panthers are now 8-6-3 on the year, including 5-3-3 in league play.
York dominated the match from the outset. The team maintained possession and posted a shot on goal in the 11
th minute off the boot of
Lorna Campos, but it was saved.
The Panthers found the back of the net for what turned out to be the match-winning goal at the 33:52 mark when
Rieke Wolff found
Gracie Reynolds for the score. The home team tried to push the margin to 2-0 late in the half, but
Cleo Paris' attempt was stopped by the keeper.
In the 61
st minute,
Zippora Nigg connected for a goal, giving York a 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Nigg and
Adriana Castellanos Rodrigo connected on a pass that later found
Sofia Villa Monterd, who promptly blasted an attempt for the third and final goal of the match.
McKenzie Stricker and Castellanos had shots on goal that were turned away. Monterd and
Ava Gibson Doyle also put shots on frame late in the contest.
It wasn't until the 90
th minute did the visitors manage to record a shot.
For the match, Reynolds, Villa Monterd and Nigg had goals. Nigg, Castellanos and Wolff posted assists in the shutout.
In goal,
Harumi Cornejo played all 90 minutes to pick up the shutout.
