WINFIELD, Kan. – The York University volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision at Southwestern Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 18-11 on the season, including 4-5 in KCAC action.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-22, 25-27, 18-25.
York was led by
Kaylee Weigel's team-best 12 kills while hitting .296 on 27 attempts.
Avery Schneider added six kills while
Liberty Baker chipped in five.
Mariah Janda and
Kensey Clifton shared team-best accolades with 14 assists apiece.
Elena Brown and Janda served up three aces each.
Cassie Richardson accounted for a team-best 15 digs while
Valentina Jimenez added 11. Clifton tallied eight digs.
In the second set, the Panthers trailed 17-13 before Schneider and Baker notched back-to-back kills. Moments later, York trailed 20-17. However,
Jai Dotson's point started a spurt for the visitors. Two straight errors by Southwestern knotted the score at 20-20. Clifton added a kill. Two more miscues by the home team pushed the margin to 23-20. Southwestern made it 23-22, but Weigel answered the call with a kill. Dotson ended the set with a thunderous kill.
York trailed in the third set 15-10, but three consecutive errors made it 15-13.
Florencia Felmer served up a pair of aces, tying the frame. Down 24-22, Weigel pulled the team within one on a kil. Another error by Southwestern knotted the score at 24-24. After trading points, the home squad netted the final two points for the 27-25 win.
