YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team recorded a 3-1 victory over Tabor Wednesday evening in KCAC action.
The Panthers are now 19-11 overall, including 5-5 in league play.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first frame and never looked back.
Jai Dotson started things off with a kill. Moments later, she added a point to make it 4-0.
Kaylee Weigel's kill extended it to a five-point margin. Another point by Dotson and an ace from
Elena Brown helped the squad to a 9-1 lead. Up 18-13,
Kenna Tarnowski slammed home a kill before adding a block on the ensuing play. With the score 21-14, an error gave York the ball back. A few plays later,
Avery Schneider ended the set with a kill off a pass from
Kensey Clifton.
Leading 6-5 in the second frame, Schneider posted a kill. Two errors by the visitors and an ace from
Amanda Macias pushed the advantage to 10-5. Up 15-8, Weigel added a kill. Brown served up an ace before Weigel had a pair of kills for a 12-point lead at 20-8. Although Tabor pulled within four after a spurt, Tarnowski ended the second stanza with a kill for a 25-20 win.
After dropping the third set 25-23, York bounced back in the fourth frame. Although it was tightly contested, the Panthers held a 16-12 lead. Back-to-back miscues by the visitors extended the score to 18-12. An error by Tabor pushed it to 20-16. Weigel added a kill to go up five. Up 23-20, Tarnowski hammered home a pass from
Mariah Janda. An attack error ended the match.
The team was led by Schneider's 12-kill performance. Tarnowski added 10 while Weigel chipped in nine. Janda dished out 25 assists and Clifton had 13.
Defensively, Dotson had four blocks and
Ronan Merriex added three.
Cassie Richardson led the way with 18 digs. Janda had 15 for a double-double while
Valentina Jimenez notched 12.
