KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The York University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Avila Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 5-4-2 overall, including 2-2-2 in KCAC action. Avila stands at 6-2-3 on the year and 3-1-2 in league play.
After neither team could break through in the first half, the home squad registered a 1-0 lead in the 54
th minute.
In the 66
th minute,
Laia Gallego Balado blasted a shot on goal, but it was thwarted by the keeper. York continued being aggressive, firing another shot on frame at the 71:12 mark. However, the keeper managed to save it.
Adriana Castellanos Rodrigo's shot was also stopped 34 seconds later.
The Panthers knotted the score when Balado found the back of the net at the 75:40 mark, making it 1-1.
Claudia Montero assisted on the goal with a nice touch on the give-and-go pass.
York nearly took the lead, but
Zippora Nigg's shot in the 83
rd minute hit the crossbar. Balado's shot on goal was stopped. Nigg's last-second shot narrowly missed to the right of the post, ending the contest in the draw.
For the match, York tallied 15 shots, including eight on goal. Avila had 11 shots, with seven on target.
Gracie Reynolds and Nigg registered three shots and two, respectively, in the tie.
In goal,
Harumi Cornejo came up with six saves.
