Panthers Post 8-0 Win In KCAC Action

LINDSBORG, Kan. – The York University women's soccer team cruised past Bethany with an emphatic 8-0 victory Wednesday evening.

The Panthers are now 6-4-2 on the season, including 3-2-2 in league play.

Gracie Reynolds had a tremendous performance, garnering three goals and one assist in the win. Laia Gallego Balado found the back of the net twice and dished out three assists. Zippora Nigg totaled a goal and three assists. McKenzie Stricker also scored once. Adriana Castellanos, Ava Gibson Doyle, Alba Montesdeoca and Cleo Paris were all credited with assists.

In goal, Harumi Cornejo and Sofia Falcao combined for the shutout with each playing a half.

It didn't take long for the visitors to put the match away, netting the match-winning goal at the 1:46 mark when Balado took a pass from Nigg for the golden goal. Just 18 seconds later, Reynolds got into the scoring column, finding the back of the net off a double assist from Balado and Nigg.

The visitors pushed the margin to 3-0 when Balado found Reynolds just 11:02 into the match. The Panthers finished the scoring in the half when Paris dished out a pass to Stricker, making it 4-0.

Only 42 seconds into the second half, Nigg connected with a goal. Balado and Reynolds were each credited with an assist on the play. Doyle and Nigg garnered assists on a score by Reynolds at the 56:34 mark, extending the advantage to 6-0. Less than a minute later, Castellanos connected with Balado for a score.

Avery Heins completed the scoring in the 81st minute of action off a pass from Montesdeoca.

It marks the most goals since a 5-0 win Oct. 18, 2023 at McPherson.
