SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The York University women's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision at Evangel Saturday afternoon in KCAC action.
The Panthers are now 8-6-4 overall and 5-4-4 in KCAC play. The Valor improve to 8-6-3 on the year and 7-4-2 against conference foes.
After a save by
Harumi Cornejo at the 11:08 mark, York responded with a pair of shots three minutes later.
McKenzie Stricker's shot sailed to the right of the goal. Just 13 seconds later,
Laia Gallego Balado's shot on frame that was stopped by the keeper.
Gracie Reynolds' attempt was saved in the 17
th minute of play. The Panthers continued to be the aggressor as Adriana Castellanos' shot was blocked a moment later.
Down 1-0 late in the half,
Cleo Paris tried to tie the match before intermission, but her shot was high.
Stricker placed a shot on goal in the 61
st minute, but it was saved – as was
Zippora Nigg's attempt four minutes later.
Evangel took a 2-0 lead with a goal at the 81:48 mark for the final tally.
For the match, York registered 14 shots, including four on goal. The squad earned five corner kicks. Castellanos and Nigg each had three shots in the loss.
Between the pipes, Cornejo played all 90 minutes and stopped a shot.
