LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost an 85-59 decision at the University of Saint Mary Wednesday evening.

The Panthers are now 2-3 on the season, including 0-2 in KCAC action.

York was led by Destiny Shepherd and Britney Schroer as each posted 15 points in the hard-fought loss. Briana Bunkley reached double figures with 10 points. Olivia Adams accounted for eight markers while Monique Contreras had four.

Schroer notched a double-double with her 10-rebound performance. Pasiko Hvichiani distributed four assists while Shepherd had three. 

For the game, York hit 22-of-62 from the floor. The squad connected on 14 free throws and pulled down 28 boards, including 11 on the offensive glass. The Panthers got 22 points off the bench and netted 20 points in the paint.

The home team led the entire way, taking a 12-2 edge before Olivia Shannon found Schroer for a jumper. An Adams bucket and free throws from Alliyana Page made it 14-8. Trailing 20-10, Shepherd hit a free throw and Bunkley canned a lay-up to make it 20-13 heading into the second quarter.

York cut the deficit to three, 25-22, with 6:14 to go in the half. Bunkley hit an inside shot and Shepherd drained a jumper. Clara Romero's free throw made it a three-point game. However, Saint Mary embarked on a 20-7 spurt to close the period.

Shepherd found Schroer for the first bucket of the second half and Shepherd drained a shot at the 9:10 mark to pull within 12, 45-33, but that was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
