OTTAWA, Kan. – The York University volleyball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a 3-0 loss at Ottawa.
The Panthers are now 19-15 overall, including 5-9 in KCAC action. The home team improves to 17-11 on the year and 11-3 against conference foes.
Set scores were 25-23, 25-16 and 25-15.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Liberty Baker and
Kaylee Weigel as each slammed home five kills.
Aubrey Bostick and
Jai Dotson accounted for four kills apiece while
Kenna Tarnowski added two kills.
Mariah Janda dished out 10 assists while
Kensey Clifton distributed seven assists.
Defensively, Tarnowski was in on four blocks while Dotson tallied two block assists.
Cassie Richardson notched 16 digs and
Valentina Jimenez garnered nine digs.
Ambar Ortiz chipped in six.
Down 6-3 in the first set, a kill by Baker and an error closed the gap to 6-5. Moments later, Baker added another point, and a miscue knotted the score at 7-7. A kill from Bostick and an ace from Ortiz made it 15-13. Trailing 17-14, two errors and an ace from
Elena Brown tied the frame at 17-17. The Panthers made it 25-23 after two miscues by Ottawa, but that was as close as the team could get.
With the score at 13-6 in the second set, two errors by the home squad and an ace from
Amanda Macias cut the margin to four, 13-9. However, Ottawa managed to close out the stanza for a 25-16 win.
