Panthers Pick Up Win On Senior Day

YORK, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team cruised to a 73-58 victory over Bethel on Senior Day.

The Panthers are now 10-16 overall, including 8-12 in KCAC play. Bethel falls to 12-14 overall, including 9-11 in league play.

Head coach Tree Burks' team was led by Trevon Dennis' near double-double effort of 18 points and nine rebounds. Dennis Glover added 17 points and nine rebounds. Andrew Benntt tallied 14 points and seven boards while Jaden Henderson's 11 points.

Trailing 15-10 at the 12:34 mark, Devin Carroll took a pass from Bennett and promptly buried a three-ball. Ninety seconds later, Bennett hit two free throws to knot the score at 15-15. Down by two, Dennis canned a shot from distance off a pass from DJ Leaks. Carroll followed it up with a shot from downtown before Jordan Marble hit three free throws. A jumper by Henderson off a pass from Salvador Fernandez capped the 11-0 spurt. Overall, the Panthers used a 17-4 run to take a 34-23 lead into the break.  

Leading 46-41 with just under 12 minutes to go, Rhino Hernandez connected with Dennis for a shot from behind the arc. Just 39 seconds later, Hernandez hit Dennis for his second consecutive shot from distance, pushing the margin to 11 at 52-41.

Bethel battled back and made it a two-point contest with 7:13 remaining. Glover hit a jumper and Bennett netted two free throws for a 58-52 advantage. After a free throw by the visitors, Dennis found Henderson for a three-ball. Bennett followed it up with a jumper. Glover made a lay-up, a free throw and an inside shot, completing the 10-0 run while giving the Panthers a 15-point working margin with just 2:40 to play.

After Bethel pulled within 12, Dennis scored three straight points prior to Bennett putting an exclamation point on the win with a thunderous dunk off a pass from Hernandez en route to a 15-point win.   

For the game, York made 25-of-55 (45.5 percent) from the floor. The team made seven three-point shots and hit 16-of-23 (69.6 percent) from the foul line. The Panthers held a 48-33 edge on the glass. The squad maintained the lead for 28:15. In the win, the Panthers dished out 12 assists and scored 30 points in the paint.
