York Takes Two From Oklahoma Panhandle State

GRUVER, Texas – The York University baseball team swept a doubleheader at Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday by scores of 12-4 and 12-7.

The Panthers are now 2-0 on the season.

In the season opener, Secundino Morales led off the year with a base hit. After moving to second, he scampered to third base on a wild pitch before scoring on a wild pitch.

Down 2-1 in the third, Morales went back to work by knotting the game with a lead-off round tripper. Tyren Dorrance doubled. Moments later, the visitors went up 4-2 on Ryan Romero's two-run shot. Ian Heck followed it up with a solo blast for a 5-2 advantage.

With two away in the fourth, Dorrance doubled Morales to third, who had reached on a two-out walk. An error allowed Morales to score. Three batters later, Dorrance scored on a wild pitch for a 7-2 lead.

The Panthers pushed the score to 10-2 with a three-run fifth. With the bases loaded, Morales doubled everyone home for the eight-run advantage. York extended the margin to 12-2 with Austin Grant's two-run homer in the sixth. The base hit plated Sam Hodoly, who had singled earlier in the frame.

The Aggies added two runs in the bottom of the inning for the final score.

For the game, Morales led the way with three hits, four RBI and three runs scored. Dorrance and Daniel Polo had two hits apiece. Dorrance and Hodoly each crossed home twice. Grant drove in a pair of runs.

Dalton Juden worked six innings and had five strikeouts en route to the win. He walked one and gave up four runs on five hits. Sam Maudsley tossed the seventh inning and had a strikeout.

The Panthers kept the bats hot in the nightcap. With one out and two on, Polo singled to load the bases. Heck singled home Morales and Dorrance for a 2-0 lead in the first frame.

Morales and Dorrance each got on base in the second and the duo managed to trot home when Polo blasted a three-run homer for a 6-0 advantage.

The Aggies tied the score with a six-run second inning but York quickly regained the lead. In the top of the fourth, Cesar Galvan singled and Polo walked. A wild pitch pushed each runner up a base but Romero launched a three-run home run for a 9-6 margin.

The Panthers tacked on three more runs in the sixth stanza when Galvan went yard, plating Martinez and Morales. Oklahoma Panhandle State scored a run in the bottom of the inning for the final tally.

Galvan led the way with three hits and three RBI. Polo accounted for two hits and three RBI while Romero garnered three RBI. Heck added two RBI in the victory. Morales and Polo each scored three times while Dorrance crossed home twice.

Jackson Van Roekel got the start and had a strikeout. Ruben Colliander saw time before Thomas Fogle worked 4.1 frames to pick up the victory. Fogle struck out six batters and walked just one. Cole Doebele tossed the seventh inning and did not give up a hit.
