FREMONT, Neb. – The York University softball team lost a pair of non-conference games at Midland University by scores of 6-0 and 8-0.
The Panthers are now 2-14 on the season while the Warriors improve to 15-2.
Down 5-0 in the top of the third, York got its first base runner when
Nevaeh Reed singled to left field with two outs. A walk to
Paige Chapman put two runners on base, but a strikeout ended the threat.
Two innings later,
Sariah Ayala recorded a two-out single up the middle, but she was left stranded.
With two out in the seventh inning,
Sofia Perez roped a double to the gap in left center field. Ayala tallied an infield single, but the Panthers were unable to push across a run.
For the game, Ayala led the way with a pair of hits.
In the circle,
Bailey Hardey worked five innings and gave up five runs on six hits to take the loss.
Malia Alvarez worked the sixth inning and had a strikeout.
Game two started with York threatening in the top of the first. Chapman singled and went to second on a wild pitch.
Breanna Underwood laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing Chapman to third. With two down,
Gracie Torstensen Walked but a strikeout ended the inning.
Midland took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second stanza. The Warriors added a run in the third and recorded the run-rule victory with another run in the fifth frame.
In the top of the third, the Panthers put runners on base. With one away, Underwood singled and swiped second. Torstensen walked with two down, but a grounder ended the threat.
York had a pair of base runners in the fourth as
Emma Morphew reached on an error. After a groundout put her on second,
Katie Taylor's infield single put runners on first and third base, but the team could not push across a run.
For the game, Chapman, Taylor and Underwood recorded hits while Torstensen registered a pair of walks.
In the circle, K. Roe threw 2.2 innings while Hardey had a pair of strikeouts in relief.
