Panthers Take Two From Doane

CRETE, Neb. – The York University baseball team swept both games at Doane (NE) Tuesday by scores of 9-5 and 5-2.

The Panthers are now 8-14 on the season.

Down 2-0 in the top of the third inning, Cameron Reeve doubled to right center field to lead off the stanza. After moving to third on a balk, Austin Grant ripped a single to center field, making it 2-1. Two batters later, Cesar Galvan drew a walk and a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position. After a line drive out, both runners came home on an error for a 3-2 advantage.

Tied at 3-3 in the fourth, Reeve reached on a two-out error and scored on a base hit by Grant. The Panthers pushed their lead to 6-3 with a two-run fifth. With one down, Daniel Polo walked and moved to second on a throwing error, allowing Trevor Peterson to reach base safely. Peyton Pinedo came in as a pinch runner for Polo. Ryan Romero's single loaded the bases for Ian Heck, who promptly rocketed a double to center field, allowing Pinedo and Peterson to score.

In the sixth, Secundino Morales doubled and Galvan walked. Polo brought everyone home on a three-run round-tripper to left field for a 9-3 margin.

Doane scored two runs in the bottom of the inning but York secured the 9-5 victory.

For the game, Grant and Romero had two hits apiece. Polo led the way with three RBI while Grant and Heck had two RBI each. Galvan and Reeve crossed home twice apiece.

On the mound, Thomas Fogle went the distance. He struck out two batters in the complete-game victory.  

In game two, York broke the scoreless contest in the third inning. Nicholas DeMonte was hit by a pitch and Isaac Stark came in as a pinch runner. After a walk to Reeve, Morales loaded the bases with an infield hit. Galvan belted an offering back up the middle, driving in two.

Tied at 2-2 in the fourth, Galvan recorded a one-out single to center field. Two batters later, Romero singled to put two on base. Heck drove in Stark with a base knock through the left side of the infield. Moments later, DeMonte reached on an error, allowing Romero and Heck to cross home plate for a three-run advantage.

For the game, Galvan and Romero posted two hits apiece. Galvan led the way with two RBI while Stark crossed home twice in the victory.

On the mound, Owen McClung got the start and worked two frames. Marce Vasquez tossed 1.2 frames while Jackson Van Roekel worked one-third of an inning. Fred Juden threw two innings and had two strikeouts while Ruben Colliander had a scoreless inning to secure the save.
