Panthers drop two on final day of Friends tourney

WICHITA, Kan. – The York University softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday. The Panthers lost 12-0 to Missouri Valley College before falling 3-1 to Cottey College.

The Panthers are now 2-12 on the season.

In game one against Missouri Valley, the Panthers trailed 1-0 in the first. With one down, Kennedie Anderson singled to right field and moved to second on a walk to Breanna Underwood. However, a groundout ended the threat.

The visitors plated six runs in the second for a 7-0 lead. With one down in the bottom of the first, Tricia Trice tripled down the right field line, but she was left stranded.

Down 9-0 in the third, Anderson got on base with a single. Trailing 12-0 in the fourth, Kylee Kenning came in as a pinch hitter and promptly walked. She went to third on a pair of wild pitches but the Panthers were unable to push across a run.

For the game, Anderson led the way with three of the team's five hits. Chapman and Trice each posted base knocks.

In the circle, M. Alvarez had two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Bailey Hardey worked the final 3.2 innings in the contest.

In game two, York trailed 1-0 in the second inning but Tricia Trice promptly tied it up with a solo round-tripper.

The Panthers had two on in the third as Anderson singled and moved to second on a base knock by Underwood, but a fly ball ended the inning.

Cottey plated two runs in the third for what turned out to be more than enough in the hard-fought contest.

An error put Trice on in the fourth. She moved to second on a base hit by Carla Martinez but three fly balls ended the stanza. York loaded the bases in the sixth but the team was unable to push across a run.

For the game, Anderson and Underwood had two hits apiece.

In the circle, Bailey Hardey worked a complete game and struck out four.

The Panthers return to action Saturday, March 9 for a doubleheader at Midland University. Live stats will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
