BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The York University baseball team lost a pair of games at Oklahoma Wesleyan University Saturday by scores of 14-6 and 9-5.
The Panthers are now 6-13 overall and 0-8 in KCAC play. OKWU is now 14-7 on the season and 10-1 against league foes.
In the top of the first, York started off strong.
Austin Grant singled to get things going.
Secundino Morales recorded a base knock to left, pushing Grant up 90 feet.
Cesar Galvan's single drove in Grant for a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Morales pushed the score to 2-0 on a passed ball.
The Panthers extended the lead in the second frame. After a walk to
Sam Hodoly and a single to
Cameron Reeve,
Isaac Stark reached on an error where both base runners scored. Two batters later, a Morales single to left drove in Stark for the 5-0 advantage.
The home team scored a run in the second, third and fourth before taking the lead with a four-run fifth inning. OKWU made it 14-5 with a seven-run sixth inning.
The Panthers continued to play hard and scored a run in the ninth on a Galvan round-tripper. However, the team could not get any closer.
For the game, Galvan, Morales and Reeve had three hits apiece. Galvan drove in a pair of runs as did Stark.
On the mound,
James McCown got the start and worked 4.2 innings. He had a strikeout.
Dalton Juden worked two-thirds of an inning while
Jackson Van Roekel got an out with a strikeout.
Ruben Colliander had a pair of strikeouts in 2.1 frames of action.
In game two, York trailed 1-0 but quickly knotted the score in the top of the third inning.
Tyren Dorrance and Grant each walked to lead off the stanza. With one down, Galvan continued his solid day with an RBI single up the middle, driving in Dorrance. A double play ended the threat.
The home squad took the lead with a run in the third, two in the fourth and five in the sixth for a 9-1 advantage.
York sliced the deficit in the seventh.
Nicholas DeMonte led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Grant singled in DeMonte to make it 9-2. Morales blasted a two-run round-tripper, driving in Grant. Galvan followed him up with a solo shot, making it a 9-5 contest. However, the team was unable to push across any more runs.
For the game, DeMonte and Galvan had two hits apiece. Galvan and Morales each drove in two runs – and both had round-trippers in the game.
On the mound,
Ian Heck worked four innings and had three strikeouts.
James Mockry and
Owen McClung each worked an inning.
