Panthers beat Swedes in midweek action

YORK, Neb. – The York University baseball team overcame an early 7-2 deficit and knocked off Bethany College 13-11 Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 17-20 on the season, including a 9-15 ledger in KCAC action. 

Head coach Brian Walth's team trailed 4-0 in the bottom of the first, but the home team cut into the deficit. Austin Grant singled to the shortstop and scored on a Secundino Morales base knock to right center field, making it 4-1. Moments later, Daniel Polo singled home Morales with a base hit through the right side of the defense.

Trailing 7-2 in the fifth, Morales ripped a triple to the gap in right center field. After a walk to Cesar Galvan, Ian Heck blasted a home run down the left field line, pulling the home team within two at 7-5.

Down 7-5 in the sixth, Cameron Reeve walked. With Reeve on second and two out, Galvan drew a base on balls. Reeve scored on Heck's single to right field. After a walk to Ryan Romero, Polo singled in Galvan and Heck for a one-run edge. 

A walk to Trevor Peterson load the bases for Nicholas DeMonte, who promptly roped a single to center field, driving in Romero and Polo. 

Up 10-9 in the eighth, the Panthers added three insurance runs. With two outs, DeMonte singled in Romero. Reeve then singled in Connor Larson. After a pitching change, Grant singled home Isaac Stark, who entered as a pinch runner for DeMonte.

For the game, DeMonte and Polo had three hits apiece. Each knocked in three runs while Heck tallied two hits and four RBI. Grant and Morales also registered two hits apiece. Galvan, Heck, Morales and Romero crossed home twice each. 

On the mound, Dalton Juden threw 2.2 frames and had two strikeouts. Bryce Woodard worked five innings to get the victory as he collected four strikeouts. James Mockry pitched 1.1 innings picking up the save, while striking out two.
