SUTTON, Neb. – The York University baseball team cruised to an 11-1 victory over Evangel Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 20-24 overall and 12-19 in KCAC action.
Secundino Morales and
Trevor Peterson led the way with two hits each to go along with three RBI apiece.
Ian Heck and
Daniel Polo each drove in two. Morales, Polo,
Ryan Romero and
Isaac Stark all crossed home twice in the victory.
On the mound,
Sam Reynolds went the distance to get the victory. He had a pair of strikeouts and gave up just one run on four hits and did not issue a walk.
Head coach
Brian Walth's team trailed 1-0 in the third inning but York bounced back in the bottom of the frame.
Austin Grant singled and with two down,
Nicholas DeMonte drew a walk. Morales belted a three-run blast and the home team would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
The Panthers used the long ball again in the fourth inning as Polo launched a two-run shot for a 5-1 advantage. Romero scored on the play after earning a walk.
In the fifth, DeMonte walked and
Isaac Stark moved to second after entering as a pinch runner when Morales singled to left field.
Cesar Galvan drew a base on balls before Heck plated a two-RBI single. Galvan scored on a fielding error for a seven-run margin. Peterson's solo blast to lead off the sixth pushed the margin to 9-1.
York ended the game with the run-rule victory in the seventh. Romero, Polo and Grant all walked before Peterson singled home Romero and Polo for the game-clinching run.
