Eagles sweep Panthers in windy affair

YORK, Neb. – The York University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Game scores were 12-2 in six innings and 8-0 in the nightcap.

The Panthers are now 6-26 on the year, including 4-12 in KCAC action.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Breanna Underwood laid down a bunt single. She swiped second and moved to third before racing home as Kennedie Anderson reached on an error, making it a one-run game.

Oklahoma Wesleyan scored five runs over the next three innings for a 7-1 lead. However, the Panthers got back in the scoring column in the fourth stanza. Nevaeh Reed reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second when Carla Martinez drew a walk. Sariah Ayala reached on a throwing error, allowing Martinez to cross home plate.

The visitors added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for an 11-2 edge.

For the game, Anderson, Paige Chapman, Kayla Noelker and Underwood all had hits. Anderson registered a double and drove in one. Ayala also had one RBI. Reed and Underwood each scored.

In the circle, Kaitlyn Roe worked three innings and took the loss. Malia Alvarez tossed the final three frames and had a strikeout.

Game two saw Oklahoma Wesleyan take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Chapman walked with one down in the bottom of the frame and moved to second on a groundout from Sofia Perez, but a groundout ended the stanza.

Reed ripped a single to center field in the second and moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt, but a pop fly completed the frame.

Oklahoma Wesleyan scored five runs in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.

Anderson recorded an infield hit with one down in the fourth but was erased when Tricia Trice reached on a fielder's choice. The Panthers were unable to push across a run.

The visitors tacked on a run in the fifth for an 8-0 margin.

In the fifth, Gracie Torstensen drew a lead-off walk. Two batters later, Ayala also walked, putting runners on first and second. With two down, Chapman singled to center field, loading the bases. However, a pop-up ended the contest

For the game, Anderson, Chapman and Reed all had hits.

In the circle, Alex Harwell threw a complete game. She gave up eight runs, but only three were earned, on four hits. She also had three strikeouts.
