FREMONT, Neb. – The York University volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision at Midland University Tuesday evening.
The Panthers are now 1-1 on the season while the Warriors improve to 1-3.
Set scores were 18-25, 15-25 and 15-25.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Kenna Tarnowski's nine-kill performance. She hit an astounding .667 with just one error on 12 attacks.
Kaylee Weigel accounted for eight kills while
Brianna Lemke chipped in seven kills.
For the match,
Mariah Janda dished out 15 assists while
Kensey Clifton notched 10 assists.
Ambar Ortiz recorded the team's lone ace.
Cassie Richardson posted 14 digs while Janda tallied eight in the loss.
In the first set, kills from Tarnowski and
Liberty Baker knotted the score at 6-6. Down 14-11, Baker slammed home a pass from Clifton. Ortiz served up an ace, cutting the deficit to one, 14-13. However, Midland embarked on a 6-1 spurt. The home squad would hold on for a seven-point victory.
Set two saw the Panthers snag a 4-1 advantage. Tied at 1-1, Lemke hammered home a kill. Back-to-back attack errors by the Warriors gave York a three-point edge. Trailing 12-7, Tarnowski stopped the small run by Midland, making it 12-8. Down 23-11, Lemke and Weigel notched back-to-back points for York, but Midland recorded the 10-point win.
Gardner's squad tied the third set at 2-2 after consecutive attack errors by the home team. The Warriors recorded three straight points, but three consecutive miscues tied it once again, this time at 5-5. A bad set by Midland pulled York within one at 13-12, but the Warriors rattled off five straight points for a 19-13 lead. Weigel's kill pulled the Panthers within six, 21-15, but that was as close as the team could get.
