CRETE, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision at Doane Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 1-1 while the Tigers are 2-1-1.
Doane got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute of action. York nearly knotted the match in the 16
th minute, but
Tiago Neves' shot was thwarted by the keeper. Just three minutes later,
Fabian Kastl's shot was stopped, keeping the score at 1-0.
The Panthers did not have another shot in the half until there was just 98 seconds left in the period. Kastl registered another shot on frame, but it was also saved, keeping it a one-score contest at the break.
Just 11:55 into the second half, Tomas Viralhades blasted a shot that was stopped. After a pair of attempts from Doane that missed,
Rodrigo Preto's shot in the 77
th minute sailed just left of the post.
The Tigers found the back of the net at the 78:48 mark for a 2-0 edge.
For the match, Kastl led the Panthers with two shots on goal. Doane tallied 13 shots compared to five for the visitors. York recorded four shots on goal while the Tigers had six shots on frame. The Panthers amassed four corner kicks while limiting the opposition to just one.
In goal,
Jamie Watt played 85 minutes and made four saves while giving up two goals.
Alexandre Florens also saw time between the pipes, playing five minutes.
