Panthers Dominant on International Night

YORK, Neb. – The York University volleyball team defeated Faith Baptist Bible College 3-1 and knocked off Union 3-0 Tuesday.

The Panthers are now 9-4 on the season.

Against Faith Baptist Bible College, York was paced by Avery Schneider and Kayle Weigel's nine kills. Kenna Tarnowski notched eight kills while Emma Kerley chipped in seven. Florencia Felmer and Liberty Baker contributed five kills apiece.

Mariah Janda posted 25 assists while Kensey Clifton and Cassie Richardson accounted for eight and seven, respectively.

At the service line, Ambar Ortiz served up three aces while Elena Brown and Felmer had two apiece.

Defensively, Tarnowski posted five total blocks. Richardson registered 21 digs while Valentia Jimenez had nine.

Leading 12-7 in the first set, an error by the visitors sparked a 9-0 run that ended with a kill from Baker. The run gave the Panthers a 21-7 lead and they did not look back.

After dropping the second stanza, York took control after the early going of the third frame. Tied at 11-11 after a kill from Aubrey Bostick, the Panthers rattled off 12 more points, taking a commanding 23-11 edge. Felmer ended the spurt with a kill. Moments later, Schneider completed the 12-point win with a kill off a pass from Janda.

Up 12-9 in the fourth set, a service error gave the home team a four-point cushion. The Panthers netted four more points, capping the small spurt with an ace from Janda. After the visitors cut the deficit to just two, 22-20, Weigel answered with a kill. Amanda Macia served up an ace before Weigel wrapped up the five-point victory with a kill.

In the evening contest against Union, an attack error by the visitors made it 8-4. The squad embarked on another run, taking a 14-4 lead after a kill from Tarnowski. Up 23-11, Tarnowski and Kerley combined for a block before Kerley ended the frame with a kill.

Leading 15-13, Tarnowski slammed home a pass from Hanna Bridges. Liberty and Tarnowski combined for a block for a four-point edge. With the score at 21-16, Weigel and Bostick posted kills. Moments later, Bostick hammered home a kill before Bostick and Schneider finished the set with a block for the 25-17 victory.

Down 9-7 in the third frame, Baker and Schneider knotted the contest with kills.  The squad took an 11-10 lead on a point from Ronan Merriex. Janda served up three aces for a 15-10 edge. Up 17-12, a service error gave the side-out back to the Panthers. With the score at 19-12, Baker hammered home a pass from Janda. Ortiz tallied back-to-back aces before Baker put the contest away with a kill.

For the match, Baker led the way with nine kills and Bostick added seven. Janda accounted for 16 assists and Clifton chipped in 10.

Janda was outstanding behind the service line, tallying five aces while Brown had four.

Defensively, Ortiz posted six kills.

The Panthers return to action Friday when they compete at the Eutectics Classic in St. Louis, Mo. The squad takes on Cottey College (10:30 a.m.) and Brescia (12:30 p.m.). Live stats will be available at Yorkpanthers.com.
