MITCHELL, S.D. – The York University women's soccer team registered a 3-1 victory at Dakota Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 3-1 on the season while the Tigers fall to 0-2.
York jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when
Gracie Reynolds netted the first of her two goals at the 5:14 mark. The Panthers continued to push forward. In the 14
th minute of play,
McKenzie Stricker's shot on goal was stopped. DWU managed to tie the match at 1-1 with just 4:28 to play in the period.
Maisie Briscoe fired a shot in the 55
th minute that was turned away. Three minutes later, Reynolds blasted a pair of shots, but neither could cross the end-line. After a foul in the box, Reynolds converted a penalty kick with 61:15 showing on the clock.
After solid defense by York kept the Tigers out of striking distance, Briscoe found the back of the net, sealing the match with just 3:55 to play.
Sofia Villa Monterd was credited with the assist on the play.
Dakota Wesleyan had a last-minute attempt, but
Harumi Cornejo registered the save.
For the match, Reynolds had two goals on four shots on goal. Briscoe added a goal while Villa Monterd dished out an assist.
Between the pipes, Cornejo played all 90 minutes and had eight saves.
