YORK, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-1 contest to Concordia Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 3-2 on the season while Concordia stands at 2-2-1.
Claudio Montero registered the first attempt by York, but it, along with a shot from
Gracie Reynolds, sailed wide of the goal. In the 19
th minute, Montero's attempt was thwarted by the keeper. Reynolds was close to scoring, but her shot at the 19:00 mark hit the crossbar. Thirty-nine seconds later,
Sofia Villa Monterd's header was saved.
At the 27:05 mark, Lisa Gallego Balado blasted a shot that found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
Late in the half,
Adriana Castellanos Rodrigo headed a shot, but it was stopped by the keeper. With 38:57 on the clock,
Zippora Nigg's attempt was also saved.
Concordia managed to tie the score as time was about to expire in the first half, making it a 1-1 with 22 ticks on the clock prior to intermission.
The visitors netted a quick score in the second period on an own goal for a 2-1 edge after a deflection on
Harumi Cornejo's clearance. Concordia would maintain the advantage the rest of the way.
York attempted to knot the score, but
Rieke Wolff's shot was saved in the 61
st minute.
Lorna Campos missed high of the target seconds later. The Panthers had three more shots the rest of the way, but Balado's shot on goal was saved.
For the match, Balado recorded the goal. She, Reynolds and Montero all had two shots apiece.
In goal, Cornejo played all 90 minutes.
