NEVADA, Mo. – The York University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep of Cottey College Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 14-6 on the season.

York won by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-19.

Kaylee Weigel led the way with 11 kills. Kenna Tarnowski slammed home seven kills and hit .462. Avery Schneider and Emma Kerley each had six kills in the victory.

Mariah Janda paced the squad with 19 assists. Ambar Ortiz served up a pair of aces in the win.

Defensively, Cassie Richardson garnered 31 digs while Valentina Jimenez notched 10 digs.

Tied at 20-20 in the first frame, Tarnowski slammed home a kill. An error made it 22-20. With the score at 23-23, an error by the home squad and a block from Schneider gave the Panthers the 25-23 victory.

Down 22-21 in the second stanza, Kerley knotted the frame with a kill. Elena Brown served up an ace and a miscue by the home team made it 24-22. A block from Kerley and Tarnowski gave the visitors a 25-22 win.

Tied at 19-19 in the third set, the Panthers closed the match with six straight points. Weigel got things started with a kill. Schneider and Weigel posted points for a three-point margin. Two errors by the home team and a kill from Weigel off a pass from Schneider concluded the sweep.
