Men's Soccer: Second-Half Goal Sends York To Road Win

STERLING, Kan. – The York University men's soccer team found the back of the net in the 70th minute for the 1-0 win at Sterling Wednesday.

The Panthers are now 2-3-3 on the year, including 1-1-1 in KCAC action.

After a scoreless first half, York broke the tie in the 70th minute of work. York had three consecutive shots within a 30-second span. At the 68:32 mark, Simao Mendes had his shot saved. Diego Yanes' attempt was also thwarted by the keeper. However, Tomas Viralhadas found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 69:05 mark. Yanes was credited with an assist on the play.

Sterling tried to knot the contest in the 81st minute, but Jamie Watt turned away the shot on goal.

The Panthers nearly made it 2-0 in the 87th minute of action, but Sergio Bueno's shot was saved.

The home squad had two chances in the final two minutes of play. However, Watt was up to the task and stopped the first shot. With 25 seconds to play, a shot was sent high, helping the visitors snag the 1-0 victory.

For the match, Yanes had six shots, including five on goal. He also dished out an assist. Viralhadas scored the lone goal of the match.  

In goal, Watt played all 90 minutes and had six saves while earning the clean sheet.
