YORK, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team lost a 2-1 contest to the University of Saint Mary Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 2-4-3 on the year, including 1-2-1 in KCAC play. The Spires improved to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1 in league action.
The University of Saint Mary got on the board at the 11:53 mark for a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later,
Diego Yanes' attempt missed wide of the frame. He accounted for another shot in the 33
rd minute of action but missed high.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Yanes' attempt was saved by the keeper.
The Spires added to the lead with a goal in the 59
th minute of play.
York sliced the deficit to just 2-1 when
Archford Manduvi found
Mamadou Doukanse at the 76:57 mark.
The Panthers had three more opportunities to knot the score, but all three were saved. Manduvi had a shot at the 83:44 mark while
Walker Dorsey's attempt with 6:10 to play was saved. Yanes' last-minute shot was thwarted by the keeper.
For the match, York had seven shots, including five on goal. The squad earned four corner kicks in the contest. Yanes had four of the team's attempts with two coming on target.
In goal,
Jamie Watt played the entire match and had three saves.
