YORK, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team lost a 1-0 contest to the University of Saint Mary Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 4-4-1 on the year, including 1-2-1 in league play while USM stands at 5-3-1 on the year and 3-1 in KCAC action.
York was aggressive from the outset, taking the first two shots of the match.
Cleo Paris' attempt sailed wide at the 6:03 mark. Two minutes later,
Gracie Reynolds blasted a shot on goal, but it was saved by the keeper.
After a save by
Harumi Cornejo in the 11
th minute of action, the Panthers recorded the next four shots of the match.
Adriana Castellanos Rodrigo and Reynolds had shots on target, but each were stopped. A Cornejo save in the 34
th minute marked the last shot of the half, keeping the contest scoreless heading into the second period.
The University of Saint Mary got on the board in the 48
th minute for a 1-0 advantage. However, York continued pushing forward. Castellanos Rodrigo garnered a shot on frame in the 52
nd minute.
Lorna Campos' shot was thwarted by the keeper in the 55
th minute of action.
The visitors registered a shot in the 58
th minute before the Panthers rattled off the next four attempts, including one on frame by
Sofia Villa Monterd in the 70
th minute of play.
In the waning moments, York had chances to tie the match, but Castellanos Rodrigo's shot sailed wide of the goal. With six seconds to play, her shot was saved by the keeper.
For the match, York held a 16-7 edge in shots, including a 9-5 edge on frame. The Panthers tallied four corner kicks. Reynolds had five shots, including two on target. Castellanos Rodrigo garnered four shots, including three on frame.
In goal, Cornejo played all 90 minutes and had four saves.
