YORK, Neb. – The York University women's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Nebraska Wesleyan Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 2-1 on the season while the Prairie Wolves are 2-1.
Lorna Campos nearly got York on the board multiple times early in the contest. However, all three attempts through a three-minute span were thwarted by the keeper. The Panthers' offense continued pushing forward as
Claudia Montero and
Ava Gibson Doyle had shots that sailed just wide of the goal.
Montero posted a shot on goal in the 29
th minute as did
Gracie Reynolds and Montero, but all three were saved.
Harumi Cornejo was up to the task, registering two saves late in the period, keeping the match scoreless entering halftime.
York's offense could be seen early in the second stanza, posting the first four shots. Montero's attempt missed wide in the 54
th minute before
Sofia Villa Monterd's shot was saved less than two minutes later.
Rieke Wolff's shot was off target and Villa Monterd's attempt missed just wide of the goal.
The visitors scored what turned out to be the match-winning goal at the 83:38 mark.
York tried to knot the score but both shots in the waning moments missed.
For the match, the Panthers outshot Nebraska Wesleyan 18-7, including seven shots on goal to five for the visitors. York tallied four corner kicks in the match.
Montero totaled six shots, including two on goal in 70 minutes of action in the loss.
In goal, Cornejo played all 90 minutes and stopped four shots.
