GOODWELL, Okla. – The York University baseball team split a pair of games at Oklahoma Panhandle State Friday afternoon. York lost the first game 9-7 before winning the second contest 9-2.
The Panthers are now 1-1 on the season. OPSU is now 3-3 on the year.
In game one, York scored runs in the first four innings for a 5-2 lead.
Ian Heck blasted a home run to left field to get the scoring going for the visitors. After a walk to
Trevor Peterson in the second,
Kodai Namba doubled him in for a 2-1 advantage. A
Cesar Galvan base knock in the third plated
Austin Grant for a two-run margin.
Up 3-2 in the fourth, Peterson doubled and scored on the two-run blast by
Jose Martinez.
In the sixth stanza, Peterson was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Namba, who later scored on a wild pitch for a 7-3 lead.
On the mound,
James McCown worked five innings and gave up two runs on two hits with five strikeouts.
Nate Dalizon worked two-thirds of an inning before
Bryce Woodard recorded the final out of the sixth.
The home team plated six runs in the bottom of the seventh for the come-from-behind victory.
For the game, Namba had two hits. Namba and
Jose Martinez tallied two RBI apiece while Peterson scored three times. McCown tossed five innings and struck out five. Dalizon worked two thirds of a frame.
In game two, York jumped on top of the home team when Heck knocked in
Nicholas DeMonte in the top of the first. Two batters later,
Ryan Romero lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Grant for a two-run cushion.
Up 2-1 in the second, the Panthers had the bases loaded and Heck was hit by a pitch, knocking in
Sam Hodoly.
York increased the lead when
Cameron Reeve belted a home run in the fourth. After a base hit by DeMonte, Grant doubled him home for a 5-1 advantage. Grant later scored on a single by Namba for a 6-1 lead.
In the sixth, Reeve doubled home Namba and Martinez. Moments later, Grant doubled in Reve for an eight-run margin at 9-1.
For the game, Grant posted three hits, including two doubles. Hodoly, Namba and Reeve notched two hits each. Reeve drove in three while DeMonte, Grant and Reeve crossed home twice apiece.
Heck worked six strong innings in the nightcap, striking out eight.
