YORK, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team registered a 5-2 victory over Tabor College in a KCAC clash Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 6-3 overall, including 3-1 in league play. The visitors stand at 5-3-1 on the year and 3-2 against conference foes.
York struck with the first goal of the match at the 18:09 mark when
Joao Vitor Tavares found
Finlay Lee for the 1-0 lead. Just 37 seconds later, the Panthers were on the attack again.
Asaph Achero connected with Tavares for the two-goal margin.
The offensive attack continued in the 22
nd minute when
Tylo Van Wyk blasted an attempt past the keeper for the 3-0 lead.
York upped the score to 4-0 just 7:26 into the second half as Lee's shot deflected off of the keeper directly to Achero, who promptly hammered home a shot for the four-goal margin.
The Panthers saw Tabor College pull within two with goals at the 71:35 and 76:29 marks. However, the defense was up to the challenge and kept the visitors away from the back of the net the remainder of the contest.
With under four minutes to play, Van Wyk's pass to
James McAlister led to the fifth goal of the day for the home squad while giving the team a three-goal cushion.
For the match, York held a 14-9 edge in shots, including a 9-6 margin in shots on goal. The Panthers amassed seven corner kicks.
Jamie Watt played 74 minutes between the pipes and stopped a pair of shots.
Braden Austin recorded a save in 16 minutes of action.
Achero and Lee had three shots apiece in the win while
Dominic Griffin had two.
Maxime Andrieu Briant,
Matteo Backes and
Aday Munoz Guedes all played 90 minutes in the win.
