Men's Soccer: Panthers earn a 1-1 draw with late goal on the road

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The York University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Evangel Saturday afternoon in a KCAC clash.

The Panthers are now 8-3-1 on the season, including 5-1-1 in league action.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, Asaph Achero knotted the contest with a goal at the 78:30 mark. York's last chance occurred when Achero rocketed a shot on frame with just 56 seconds remaining, but his attempt was turned away.

Immediately after the shot by Achero, York scampered back in the defensive third of the pitch. The Valor launched an attempt at the 89:27 mark, but Jamie Watt was up for the challenge, securing the save while preserving the tie.

Down 1-0 in the early going, Maxime Andrieu Briant's attempt in the 25th minute missed left of the frame. York's only other attempt in the first half occurred from Sergio Bueno, but his shot was saved.

The Panthers placed a pair of shots on goal in the first five minutes of the second period, but each were saved. Alex Hulme and Joao Vitor Tavares had shots on target.

For the match, York held a 12-11 edge in shots. The Panthers placed six shots on goal and earned four corner kicks.

Between the pipes, Watt played all 90 minutes and had six saves.
