YORK, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team cruised to a 7-1 victory over Bethany Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers are now 9-3-1 on the season, including 6-1-1 in KCAC action.
The high-octane offense got going just 3:32 into the match and never looked back. After a foul in the box,
Tim Schafer hammered home the penalty kick for a 1-0 advantage.
In the 15
th minute of play,
Alex Hulme found
Asaph Achero for a two-goal margin. Schafer continued his outstanding day at the 17:02 mark. He received a pass from
Franco Pablot and promptly found the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.
York extended the margin to 4-0 in the 31
st minute of play.
Finlay Lee converted a shot into the team's next score. Both
James McAlister and
Tristan Grommen were credited with assists on the play. The Panthers held the 4-0 lead entering the second period.
Pablot notched his second assist of the day in the 47
th minute as Lee netted his second score of the afternoon.
Four minutes later,
Joao Vitor Tavares found Achero for a 6-0 lead. In the 62
nd minute, Tavares tacked on the final score for the home team.
The visitors broke through with a goal at the 62:43 mark for the final tally.
For the match, York held a 28-9 edge in shots, including a 13-5 margin in shots on goal. The Panthers earned six corner kicks.
Achero, Lee and Schafer had two goals apiece in the victory. Pablot dished out a pair of assists in the win.
