YORK, Neb. – The York University men's soccer team recorded a 3-2 win over Saint Mary with late goal by
Joao Vitor Tavares.
The Panthers are now 10-3-1 on the season, including a 7-1-1 record in KCAC action.
York jumped on the board at the 7:49 mark when
Tim Schafer found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
The visitors managed to knot the score 11 minutes later, but the Panthers gained a 2-1 advantage in the 31
st minute when Hulme bent in his corner kick into the back of the net around the keeper.
Seventy-eight seconds into the second half, York was whistled for a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. USM converted the attempt, tying the match at 2-2.
The Panthers' offense turned to a free kick from Tavares at the 52:39 mark with his when his shot bent around the wall to get the goal, pushing York to a one-goal lead once again.
That was more than enough for York as the defense stood tall the remainder of the match. The home team did not allow a shot on goal after the offense provided what turned out to be the match-winning goal.
For the match,
Jamie Watt had a pair of saves while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.
Sergio Bueno led the Panthers with two shots on goal.
