MCPHERSON, Kan. – The York University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at McPherson College Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 10-3-1 overall, including 7-1-1 in KCAC action.
York nearly made it 1-0 in the third minute when
Alex Hulme's shot seemed destined toward the goal. However, it hit the crossbar. The Panthers stayed in the offensive third of the pitch, earning a corner kick. It resulted in a shot by
Tim Schafer that missed high.
Asaph Achero's shot on goal was turned away at the 6:40 mark.
Schafer found the back of the net at the 24:28 mark as he took a pass from
Tomas Viralhadas and quickly blasted an attempt past the keeper for a 1-0 edge.
The Bulldogs tied the match in the 36
th minute and the score remained at 1-1 entering the second half.
Down 2-1 in the 61
st minute, York battled back.
Franco Pablot checked into the game at the 77:10 mark and found Schafer two minutes later. Schafer, once again, took the pass and knotted the match at 2-2 with a goal at the 79:03 mark.
Maxime Andrieu Briant's shot in the 86
th minute missed wide.
Jamie Watt turned away two shots in the waning moments, preserving the tie.
For the match, York held a 23-8 edge in shots, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers earned seven corner kicks compared to just two by the home team.
Watt stopped four shots between the pipes. Pablot and
Sergio Bueno each led the way with four shots, including one on goal. Schafer and Achero had three shots apiece.
