OTTAWA, Kan. – The York University men's soccer team overcame a late deficit for a 1-1 tie at Ottawa Saturday evening.
The Panthers are now 10-3-3 on the season, including 7-1-3 in KCAC action.
Trailing 1-0 late in the match, York knotted the score on a
Tomas Viralhadas goal at the 86:21 mark.
York started the match with a shot from
Maxime Andrieu Briant in the fourth minute, but it was turned away by the keeper. Two minutes later,
Tim Schafer's shot on target was saved as the contest still remained scoreless.
In the 17
th minute,
Alex Hulme's shot was high of the crossbar. The Panters' defense was impressive in the opening stanza, not allowing a shot on goal. Ottawa recorded a pair of attempts in the period, but one missed left and another was high as the teams played to a scoreless draw entering the second period.
Jamie Watt turned away a shot in the 58
th minute, but the Braves broke through with a score in the 70
th minute of play.
After Viralhadas tied the match, neither squad recorded another shot in the final 3:39.
For the match, York had five shots, three of which were on goal. The team earned a pair of corner kicks and
Jamie Watt had a save while playing all 90 minutes.
