Women's Soccer: Panthers battle strong but fall 3-2 on the road

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The York University women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 3-2 match at Evangel Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 1-9-2 on the season, including 1-5-1 in KCAC action.

Just 14:52 into the match, Samantha Bayer found Gracie Reynolds for a 1-0 advantage. However, the Valor knotted the contest in the 20th minute.

Evangel tacked on goals in the 32nd and 39th minutes for a 3-1 advantage. York battled back just before the break, pulling within one. Lucia Tornero connected with Emma Walsh to make it 3-2 with 1:50 to play before intermission.

York pelted the goal with 11 shots in the final 45 minutes, including two on goal. Ellie Reynolds recorded a shot on goal at the 54:55 mark, but it was turned away by the keeper.

The Panthers had an opportunity to tie the match at the 71:12 mark, but Bayer's attempt was saved.

York had a chance in the 83rd minute, but Ellie Reynolds' shot was blocked. The visitors did not have another shot in the waning minutes of the contest.

For the match, York held an 18-14 edge in shots. The Panthers had six shots on goal and earned three corner kicks in the contest.

Gracie Reynolds and Walsh had goals while Bayer and Tornero had assists. Ellie Reynolds, Gracie Reynolds and Bayer led the offense with four shots apiece.
