Women's Soccer: Panthers beat Spires with 2-0 shutout in Homecoming game

York, Neb. - The York University women's soccer team netted a goal in each period for a 2-0 victory over Saint Mary Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 3-9-2 on the season, including a 3-5-1 ledger in KCAC action.

Just 10:19 into the match, York jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Ellie Reynolds took a pass from Harumi Cornejo for the goal. Cornejo was credited with the assist on the play.

The Panthers continued to push forward as Ellie Reynolds attempted another shot on target at the 18:10 mark, but it was turned away. Cornejo's shot in the 28th minute sailed wide of the frame, keeping it a one-score contest at halftime.

The home squad pushed the margin to 2-0 as Gracie Reynolds' corner kick found Cornejo for a goal at the 74:05 mark. The insurance goal was more than enough for the Panthers, who continued to dominate possession the rest of the way.

Lucia Tornero, Gracie Reynolds and Ellie Reynolds notched shots in a three-minute span and Gracie Reynolds attempted another shot in the waning seconds, but no other goal was needed in the shutout victory.  

For the match, York dominated possession, recording a 14-6 edge in shots, including a 6-2 margin in shots on goal. The team also earned a pair of corner kicks.

Sofia Falcao stopped a pair of shots while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.
