HILLSBORO, Kan. – The York University volleyball team lost a hard-fought 3-2 match at Tabor College Wednesday evening.
The Panthers are now 10-13 on the season, including 1-2 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Irick Gardner's team was led by
Jai Dotson and
Brianna Lemke's team-high 14 kills.
Isidora Diaz Aguirre registered seven kills while hitting .375.
Florencia Felmer chipped in six kills while
Kaylee Weigel added five.
Kensey Clifton dished out 19 assists and notched two aces.
Meadow Nusbaum recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 16 digs.
Defensively,
Valentina Jimenez accounted for 28 digs to go along with seven assists.
Ambar Ortiz had 13 digs.
At the net,
Jassania Joseph totaled four blocks while Lemke had two.
Down 9-7 in the first set, Dotson posted three straight kills. A pair of errors by the Bluejays propelled York to a 12-9 edge. Points from Lemke and Dotson pushed the Panthers to a three-point cushion, 17-14. Tabor College held a 23-22 lead before Diaz Aguirre knotted it with a kill. However, back-to-back points gave the Bluejays the first set, 25-23.
Leading 5-4 in the second frame, Dotson started a 4-1 run with a kill. A pair of errors by the home team and a kill from Felmer made it 9-5. Holding a 13-12 advantage, Clifton recorded a kill.
Elena Brown tallied an ace. Three errors by the Bluejays and a kill from Lemke extended the advantage to seven, 19-12. Up 22-14, Lemke started a 3-0 run, sealing the 25-14 win for York.
The Panthers jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the third frame. Diaz Aguirre and Felmer notched kills, making it 11-5. Tied at 16-16, Joseph added a kill and Brown tacked on an ace. Maintaining a 21-20 lead, Felmer had a pair of kills and Dotson added one.
Kory Anschutz had one of her two aces, completing the 25-20 frame.
A 6-2 run to start the fourth stanza put York in control in the early going. During the spurt, Brown had a pair of aces. Leading 6-3, Diaz Aguirre registered a kill. Nusbaum provided three straight points via aces for a 10-3 margin. However, Tabor College took a 16-15 lead, forcing a time-out. The Panthers regained the advantage after two errors by the home squad and a kill from Diaz Aguirre at 21-19. An error gave York a 23-22 edge, but the Bluejays rattled off the final three points, forcing the fifth set.
The back-and-forth final stanza saw the Panthers take a 10-8 lead after a kill from
Emma Kerley and a block from
Ronan Merriex and Joseph. Tabor College held a 12-11 lead before an attack error knotted the contest once again. Dotson tied the set at 13-13, but back-to-back points gave the win to Tabor College.
For the match, York slammed home 54 kills and served up nine aces. The team registered 94 digs and hit .141.
