HESSTON, Kan. – The York University men's basketball team cruised to an 87-60 win at Hesston Saturday evening.
Head coach
Mitch McMullen's team shot 49.3 percent from the floor and placed four athletes in double figures in the 27-point win.
Jadin Johnson led the way with a game-high 17 points while also dishing out four assists.
King Solomon accounted for 16 points, 12 of which came from behind the three-point stripe.
Logan Beckstrom and
Jaxon Kilmurry tallied 11 points apiece. The duo combined to hit eight-of-13 from the floor and four-of-eight from distance.
Richard Massey narrowly missed double figures with nine points on four-of-five shooting.
Nathaniel Owen snagged six rebounds while
Dave Dalge and Johnson had five boards apiece.
Logan Beckstrom hit a three-ball and Johnson canned a free throw for an early 10-2 edge. A thunderous dunk from Johnson pushed the margin to 10, 18-8, at the 12:54 mark.
Richard Massey netted five straight points for a 26-10 lead near the midway point of the half. Johnson sparked a late run that gave the visitors a 48-22 lead with 1:18 to play in the half.
Massey converted a pair of jumpers just five minutes into the second half for a 33-point margin. Owen's bucket at the 14:27 mark gave the Panthers their largest lead of the contest, 67-29. The Larks went on a small run, but York maintained an advantage of nearly 30 points the rest of the way.
For the game, York hit 33-of-67 (49.3 percent) from the floor. The squad hit 13 three-point buckets. Additionally, the team recorded 40 points off the bench and converted 15 turnovers into 19 points.
The Panthers return to action Monday when they play at Peru State at 7:30 p.m.
