Men's Basketball: Panthers lose road game against (RV) Peru State

PERU, Neb. – The York University men's basketball team dropped a 101-80 contest at Peru State Monday evening.

The Panthers are now 1-1 on the season.

Head coach Mitch McMullen's team was led by Jadin Johnson's 17-point game. Logan Beckstrom added 13 points while King Solomon and Amari Haynes netted eight points apiece.

Dave Dalge and Eli Nutting snagged five boards apiece. Richard Massey dished out three assists while Beckstrom and Johnson shared team-high honors with two steals apiece.

Johnson hit a three-point bucket at the 16:24 mark to pull York within three, 12-9. Trailing 20-14, Johnson took a pass from Richard Massey and converted an inside bucket. Trailing by 13, Logan Beckstrom hit a lay-up. King Solomon followed it up with a shot from downtown, making it a 27-21 contest at the 10:17 mark. Peru State slowly built a 22-point lead until Beckstrom hit two free throws at the 2:09 mark. However, the home team extended the advantage to 59-36 at the break.

York continued to play hard, but the squad was unable to get any closer than 21 over the final 20 minutes of competition.

For the game, York hit 27-of-66 (40.9 percent) from the floor. The team buried eight shots from downtown and converted 18 free throws. The Panthers grabbed 31 rebounds and dished out 11 assists in the game. York converted 18 turnovers into 15 points. The squad added 15 second-chance points and scored 30 in the lane.
