DES MOINES, Iowa – The York University men's basketball team lost an 87-53 game at Grand View Tuesday evening.
The Panthers are now 1-2 on the season.
Head coach
Mitch McMullen's team was led by
Dave Dalge and
Landon Miller as each shared team-high honors with nine points.
Jadin Johnson and
Jaxon Kilmurry netted eight points apiece while
Devin Carroll accounted for six markers.
York took an 8-7 lead on a lay-up by Dalge just 3:03 into the game. Moments later, Miller knotted the game at 11-11 on a shot from distance off a pass from
Logan Beckstrom. Dalge tied the game again at 15-15 on an inside shot with just under 10 minutes to go in the half. Kilmurry found Miller for a shot from deep for an 18-17 edge.
Trailing 26-20, Johnson converted a lay-up with 4:01 to play.
King Solomon's bucket pulled the visitors within two, 26-24. Down 30-24,
Shaun Armstrong nailed a shot, but the home team hit a three-point basket with less than a minute to play for a 33-26 edge at the break.
Miller hit a three-point bucket and Dalge netted a free throw to pull the team within three just 45 seconds into the second half. However, a 15-0 spurt by Grand View made it 48-30 and the Panthers were unable to get any closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
For the game, York hit 18-of-46 (39.1 percent) from the floor, including seven-of-23 from the three-point stripe. The Panthers netted 20 points in the paint and scored seven points off turnovers.
