YANKTON, S.D. – The York University men's basketball team lost a 79-63 decision to Doane Friday evening.
The Panthers are now 1-3 on the season.
Head coach
Mitch McMullen's team was led by
Devin Carroll and
King Solomon as each netted 12 points.
Dave Dalge chipped in 11 while
Logan Beckstrom totaled nine.
Landon Miller accounted for eight.
Dalge pulled down six rebounds while Beckstrom and
Aaron Johnson had five apiece.
Jadin Johnson dished out five assists. Solomon had a stellar defensive game, registering six steals.
Down 8-2, Dalge converted a three-point play. Trailing 18-8, Johnson hit a lay-up.
Shaun Armstrong and Solomon made inside buckets, slicing the deficit to 18-14. Momens later, Solomon took a pass from Johnson and drained a three-point bucket. Johnson hit Miller for a three-ball, trimming the margin to five, 31-26. Doane embarked on a 6-0 run over the final 2:17 for an 11-point lead at the break.
Solomon was fouled on a three-point attempt early in the second frame and netted all three charity tosses, making it 37-29. Beckstrom converted five consecutive points, trimming the deficit to five, 41-36, at the 17:44 mark. An 8-0 run by Doane pushed the advantage to 55-38.
York pulled within 14 after a jumper from Solomon and a three-ball from Carroll with 5:25 to go, but that was as close as the team would get the rest of the way.
For the game, York hit 23-of-70 from the floor, including nine-of-38 from downtown. The squad connected on eight-of-12 from the charity stripe. The Panthers snagged 36 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. McMullen's team dished out 14 assists and scored 22 points in the paint.
