STERLING, Kan. – The York University women's basketball team lost an 89-45 game at Sterling Saturday afternoon in the KCAC opener.
The Panthers are now 4-3 on the season, including 0-1 in KCAC action.
Head coach
Corinna Minjarez's team was led by
Lawson Hiltl and
Amaya Payne as each poured in eight points.
Valeria Costilla,
Alliyana Page and
Monique Contreras netted six points apiece.
Zoe Brown added five points while
Yareli Gomez and
Alesia Rand chipped in four and two points, respectively.
Page led the way with five boards while Costilla, Payne and Rand snagged four rebounds each.
Olivia Adams, Contreras and Costilla had two assists each.
Defensively, Gomez and Contreras had a block each while Gomez snagged a team-best two steals.
The visitors never led, but the squad outscored the home team 9-8 in the final 10 minutes of action. In the fourth, Costilla got things going with a jumper. Page hit two charity tosses before Contreras took a pass from Costilla for a lay-up. After a shot from Sterling, Contreras hit a free throw. The home team scored six straight before Brown closed the scoring with a lay-up.
For the game, York hit 18-of-60 from the floor and made four three-point buckets. The team canned 83.3 percent of its foul shots. The Panthers dished out 10 assists and recorded seven steals. York scored 24 points in the paint and had eight points off miscues.
